NEWS 30-7-2007: Highest Power flow of 2500MW in HVDC Talcher
In April 2006 Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. awarded the contract to Siemens to upgrade the power transmission from 2000MW to 2500MW on the existing HVDC Link connecting the power generation centre of Talcher and the almost 1400km distant, rapidly developing and hight-tech area of Bangelore.
Siemens experts have developed an unconventional solution with the aid of a software system known as Relative Ageing Indication (RAI) and Load Factor Limitation (LFL), a first-time-introduced forced air cooling system for the smoothing reactors and other additional hardware, it is possible to utilize the overload capacity of the system more effectively without installing additional thyristors to increase the DC transmission voltage or the DC current respectively.
Dated 30th of July, 2007 the first time 2500MW flow through the ESI-II Talcher-Kolar HVDC Link. During the highest ever power flow, all the equipments and systems in the station were found normal.
Introduction into Power Transmission Solutions
Interconnection allows exploitation of the advantages of different technologies for specific locations and offers a way to achieve a cost-efficient and environmentally sound blend of conventional and regenerative methods of power generation, including nuclear, hydro, solar, and wind power.
